RHC NEWS & EVENTS

BUSY AFTERNOON WITH THREE RUNS

 

7/21/08 - The afternoon started at 12:26 with E3-2, WC TRK 27, WC E271, WC E272, WC Tanker 13, WC E131 and Squad 8 responding to 15237 Ridge Road for a silo fire. Arriving to a light smoke condition, the owner decided to unload the silage and units cleared in about 10 minutes.

 

At 14:45 E3-2 responded to assist Co. 2 with an apartment building fire, 82 W. Main Street - operating as needed for two hours.

 

 

Ending the afternoon at 15:50 RHC units responded to 3340 Hill Road for an auto accident. Personnel located two vehicles- one on its roof - and assisted with patient packaging and mitigated hazards. EMS transported one patient.

 


CONTROL BURN FOUND

 

7/20/08 - At 08:48 Co. 3 responded to 3340 Hill Road for a brush fire - controlled burn was located and units went in service.

 


AUTO FIRE ON GRINDSTONE HILL ROAD

 

7/19/08 - E3-1 and Squad 3 responded to 10020 Grindstone Hill Road at 15:49 for an auto fire. Personnel located a vehicle with mechanical problems but no fire and quickly went available.

 


AFA & MVA

 

7/17/08 - RHC and WC E271 (Carnival transfer) were alerted at 19:44 for a residential fire alarm - 12775 Williamsport Pike. Alarm was caused by food left on the stove. Ending the evening at 23:02, E3-1 and Squad 3 responded to Interstate 81 northbound at mile marker 6 for a vehicle accident. Two vehicles with one auto into the guard rail, but no injuries resulted in Fire Police remaining on-scene to assist PSP while responders cleared.

 


AFA IN THE BOROUGH

 

7/16/08 - At 14:54 E3-1 was alerted to 130 N. Washington Street for an automatic fire alarm.

 


SECOND DAY - THIRD MUTUAL AID FIRE

 

7/15/08 - E3-1, ET-3 and Squad 3 at 17:08 to 5773 Colorado Street in Marion to assist Co. 8 with a commercial building fire. Crews worked suppression, ventilation and overhaul assignments, clearing in about three hours.

 

At 18:34 WC E132 responded from Co. 3 to Interstate 81, mile marker 10 southbound in Maryland for a vehicle fire.

 

 

 


ANOTHER MUTUAL AID WORKING FIRE

 

7/14/08 - At 15:29 E3-1 responded to assist Co. 9 with a mobile home fire - 11915 Punchbowl Road, crews assisted with overhaul operations. After clearing the house fire at 17:04 E3-1 and ET-3 to assist Co. 9 on a motor home fire - 9716 Shimpstown Road - cancelled enroute.

MUTUAL AID WORKING HOUSE FIRE & TRANSFER

 

7/14/08 - ET-3 responded at 00:55 to 2328 Community Center Road in St. Thomas Township to assist Co. 18 with a dwelling fire. Personnel assisted with overhaul, clearing in about 45 minutes. After clearing the fire, at 01:29 ET-3 transferred to Co. 8 for approximately 50 minutes until they cleared the house fire.

TWO EVENING AFA'S

 

7/13/08 - At 17:24 E3-1 responded to 40 Center Square for an automatic fire alarm - no cause found. Then at 21:15 E3-1 was back on the street again for alarm bells - this time to 40 Center Square - no cause found.

 


OUTSIDE INVESTIGATION

 

7/12/08 - At 23:19 Brush 3 and Engine 3-1 responded to 12340 Grant Shook Road for an outside investigation. Locating a controlled burn, units cleared in about 5 minutes.

 


2 INJURED IN BTW ACCIDENT

 

7/10/08 - Squad 3, E3-1, A3-8, A3-9, M203 and Utility 3 responded to an auto accident, 2379 Buchanan Trail West at 17:31. Units encountered a long traffic back-up as the two-vehicle incident blocked both lanes of travel, and traffic was turning around to avoid delays. Personnel treated and packaged two patients, while others secured the vehicles and the incident scene. One occupant was transported to Chambersburg Hospital, the other to Washington County Hospital and the roadway was cleared in about an hour.

 


CO DETECTOR ACTIVATION &

MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT WITH FLY-OUT

 

7/10/08 -At 12:51 Squad 3 and A3-8 responded to 887 Joy Drive for a carbon monoxide alarm sounding- no patients. Crews metered the area and located a detector that had lost power.

 

RHC and Co. 17 alerted at 15:13 for a motorcycle accident- 9500 block of Long Lane. One rider went off the road into a farm field, and was flown to York Hospital by Stat MedEvac 12.

 

 

 

 


CONTROL BURN FOUND

 

7/9/08 - Co. 3 and 8 responded to 1175 Clay Hill Road at 13:54 for an outside investigation, and found a supervised burn.

 


WILLIAMSPORT PIKE MVA

 

7/8/08 - RHC was alerted at 18:25 to 11496 Williamsport Pike for an auto accident. Personnel packaged two patients for transport, secured the vehicles involved, and mitigated fluids before clearing in about 40 minutes.

 


OUTSIDE INVESTIGATION & POSSIBLE AUTO FIRE

 

7/7/08 - E3-2 was alerted at 03:09 for an outside investigation in the 300 block of W. Baltimore Street. Crews located a small smoldering fire and went available in less than 20 minutes.

 

At 11:50 Co. 3 was dispatched to 75 Pine Drive for an auto fire. The small electrical fire was extinguished prior to fire department arrival.

 


ALARM BELLS AT SUNNY SPOT APARTMENTS

 

7/5/08 - At 23:00 E3-2 responded to 12635 Williamsport Pike - Sunny Spot Apartments - for alarm bells. Crews checked the facility with no cause found.

 


TRANSFER TO WC CO.9

 

7/4/08 - At 20:55 E3-1 transferred to WC Co. 9 while they operated at a building fire, just blocks from the station. From the ramp, the Engine crew was able to view the fire ground operation and take in fireworks displays from several communities during their 2.5 hour stand-by in Leitersburg.

 

 

 


MALFUNCTIONING AIR CONDITIONER

 

7/3/08 - Box 3-27 was alerted at 13:15 for smoke in the dwelling - 1359 State Line Road. Personnel located a malfunctioning air conditioner fan motor, and cleared in 30 minutes.
 


FATAL ACCIDENT IN I-81 AT EXIT 5

 

7/2/08 - RHC and Co. 8 were alerted at 11:53 for a vehicle accident with fire, Interstate 81 at Exit 5. A3-8 arrived first reporting a fully involved pick-up into the northbound bridge abutment. E3-1 and Squad personnel extinguished the flames and located the occupant in the vehicle. Squad 3 remained on scene to assist PSP and the Coroner's Office, while Fire Police rerouted traffic in the area for about two hours.

 

At 13:10 E3-2 responded to assist WC Co. 13 with an auto accident on Interstate 81, mile marker 10.

 

 


MULTIPLE INJURIES IN 3-CAR CRASH

 

7/1/08 - At 17:20 Squad 3, E3-2, A3-8, A3-9, WC M759, and A8-9 responded to 12876 Molly Pitcher Highway for an auto accident. Crews arrived to find three vehicles  involved, the roadway partially blocked, and multiple patients. Personnel checked the vehicles and secured the scene, while others started patient care and packaging. EMS transported four patients and A9-7 relocated to Co. 3 during the incident.
