AFA, AUTO ACCIDENT & A CHIMNEY FIRE
1/28/12 - 0024 hours: Co. 3 and 8 alerted for a residential fire alarm at 7027 Horst Road; cancelled enroute.
0909 hours: Co. 3 to Hollowell Church and State Line Roads for an auto accident. Arriving to two vehicles off the road, crews secured the scene and assisted EMS to package one patient for transport to Waynesboro Hospital. Fluid mitigation and debris clean-up were completed before units cleared in thirty-five minutes.
1212 hours: Co. 3 and Tower 9 alerted for a reported chimney fire at 3683 Rolling Hills Drive. Personnel checked the fireplace and areas adjacent to the chimney for extension and monitored temperatures to determine no hazards were present.

1/28/12 - 1630 hours: E3-2 and crew staffed Washington County Station 13 during their Annual Banquet.
AUTO ACCIDENT IN THE BOROUGH
1/27/12 - 1353 hours: Co. 3 alerted for an auto accident on South Carlisle Street at Franklin. Enroute, Communications corrected the address to South Antrim Way in the area of Family Dollar. Locating one heavily damaged vehicle in the parking lot and another on the southbound shoulder, personnel checked for hazards and assisted with debris removal while EMS obtained transport refusals from the occupants.
SMOKE ODOR IN A RESIDENCE, AUTO ACCIDENT & AFA
1/26/12 - 0949 hours: Co. 3, Tower 9 and WC E13-1 responded to 2256 Shanks Church Road for an investigation of smoke inside a residence. Arriving to the occupants evacuated and reported smoke odor from a laundry room, personnel located an overheated belt on a washing machine. Scene was cleared after extension checks were completed - about fifteen minutes.
2020 hours: Co. 3 to the 500 block of Buchanan Trail West for an auto accident. Arriving to one auto with heavy damage to the passenger side and the striking vehicle no longer in the area, crews stabilized and removed the occupant. EMS transported one to Waynesboro Hospital and the scene was cleared in twenty minutes.
2030 hours: E3-1 and Duty 3 responded for an automatic fire alarm at 350 West Madison Street. Units were available after checking the building without locating a cause for the activation and updating the representative.
GOOD INTENT AUTO ACCIDENT
1/24/12 - 1700 hours: Co. 3 and WC Co. 13 alerted for an auto accident on Interstate 81 northbound at mile marker 2; nothing found.
ENGINE & SQUAD ASSIST ON APARTMENT FIRE IN WAYNESBORO
1/23/12 - 0350 hours: E3-1 and Squad 3 to assist Co. 2 (Waynesboro) with an apartment building fire - 144 West Main Street.
2011 RHC BANQUET
1/21/12 - 1800 hours: The 35th Annual Rescue Hose Company No. 1 Banquet was held at the Special Events Center, with a large turnout of members, guests, municipal and legislative representatives present. Following the Memorial Service and meal, a review of many of the 2011 events was provided by President Cheryl Mowen, Junior Firefighter Advisers, EMS Chief Brian Luger and Fire Chief Kevin Barnes- including the Bitner Memorial Service, G-A Relay for Life, Open House, various incidents and projects. THANKS to Station 4, Washington County Co. 13, and Cumberland County Co. 73 for covering the first due for an evening.
AWARDS: Presidents Award: Seagrave Task Force; EMT of the Year: Ashley Alleman; EMS Rookie of the Year: Tim Keepers; EMS Officers Award: William Little; Life Membership: Torncee Phillippy; Outstanding Service Award: Keith Mowen.
ACCIDENTS ON I-81
1/21/12 - 0344 hours: Co. 3 and WC Co. 13 responded to Interstate 81 near mile marker 3 for an auto accident. With no injuries or related hazards, the scene was cleared in about ten minutes.
2038 hours: During the Annual Banquet, Co. 3 and 8 responded to Interstate 81 near mile marker 8 for an auto accident; nothing found.
AUTO ACCIDENT, A LOCAL ALARM & A BOX ALARM FOR THE DAY
1/20/12 - 0731 hours: Co. 3 and 8 to Interstate 81 near mile marker 6 for a property damage accident - auto overturned in the median. Squad crew secured the vehicle and EMS obtained a patient refusal before clearing.
1614 hours: Brush 3 and E3-1 to Jasper Drive - off Harvest Wagon Way- for brush. Personnel extinguished an accidental fire in a small area with no exposures.
2138 hours: Engine-Tanker 3 to 5230 Bullet Road for an inside investigation, assisting Co. 18 (Saint Thomas); cancelled enroute.
ET GOES TO CLEAR SPRING MD FOR A BARN FIRE
1/17/12 - 0203 hours: ET-3 to Faith Road, between St. Paul and Mercersburg Roads, to assist Washington County Co. 4 (Clear Spring) with a barn fire. Crew assisted with water supply operations before clearing in about three hours.
SQUAD ON SHED FIRE
1/16/12 - 1632 hours: Squad 3 to 1740 Warm Spring Road, Hamilton Township to assist Co. 8 with a reported shed fire. Responders found a small fire in a wood pile next to an outdoor furnace and placed the majority of the units in service.
RESIDENTIAL AFA ON ORENDA DRIVE
1/13/12 - 1740 hours: E3-2 to 10148 Orenda Drive for a residential fire alarm; cancelled enroute.
TWO OUTSIDE INVESTIGATIONS IN THE BOROUGH
1/12/12 - 0813 hours: E3-2 to 430 Catharine Street for an outside investigation. Personnel encountered heavy smoke from a residential chimney but no hazard and cleared in ten minutes.
1734 hours: Co. 3 responded for an outside investigation- area of 36 East Franklin Street. Crews checked the area but were unable to locate the cause of the odor.
ACCIDENT ON WORLEYTOWN ROAD
1/10/12 - 0729 hours: RHC to 11000 block of Worleytown Road for a vehicle accident. An SUV struck several mailboxes and a utility pole, causing power lines to fall. Crews secured the area and checked for additional hazards before turning the scene over to Fire Police.
AUTO ACCIDENT IN THE BOROUGH
1/8/12 - 1624 hours: Squad 3, A3-7 and Duty 3 to E. Baltimore at Allison Street for an auto accident. Arriving to two vehicles with front-end damage, personnel mitigated fluids and packaged/removed one occupant for transport.
PERSON TRAPPED UNDER A VEHICLE & A MALFUNCTIONING WOOD STOVE
1/7/12 - 1722 hours: Co. 3 responded for a reported person trapped under a vehicle - 411 South Cedar Lane. Units went available after making access and checking the victim.
1840 hours: Box 3-13A alerted for a malfunctioning woodstove at 12518 Carol Avenue. After confirming occupant actions had limited the hazard and determining no extension to the residence, crews cleared in about thirty minutes.
CAR OVER TURNED INTO A HOUSE
1/6/12 - 0728 hours: RHC to 8930 Browns Mill Road for an auto accident - vehicle overturned into a dwelling. Arriving to one occupant still inside the overturned car, personnel stabilized and accessed the passenger compartment to assist EMS with patient packaging for transport to Meritas Medical Center.
TWO BOX ALARMS & A TRACTOR TRAILER FIRE
1/5/12 - 0155 hours: ET-3 to assist Co. 18 (St. Thomas) with a dwelling fire, staging until released by Command.
1800 hours: Co. 3 and 8 responded to Interstate 81 southbound at mile marker 9 for a tractor-trailer fire. Arriving to a fire in the rear of a tractor detached from the trailer, personnel quickly knocked down the fire and checked for damage to the vehicle contents.
2006 hours: Co. 3, E8-2 and WC Quint 27 and Rescue Squad 13 alerted for an inside investigation at 77 Eastern Avenue. With fire out upon arrival, crews downgraded the assignment and ventilated the apartment building.
TWO VEHICLE FIRES & A HOUSE FIRE
1/4/12 - 0231 hours: Co. 3 and 8 responded to Interstate 81 southbound at mile marker 7 for a vehicle fire. Crews arrived to a driver-extinguished brake fire and checked the surrounding area for damage.
0410 hours: Co. 3 alerted for a vehicle fire at ConWay Freight on Mason Dixon Road. Enroute, Communications advised the incident was located at Keystone RV on South Young Road and was a recreational vehicle with multiple exposures. Additional resources were requested and personnel quickly knocked down the heavy fire encountered upon arrival. Units cleared in about ninety minutes after completing extensive overhaul, checking damage to adjoining vehicles and arranging occupant assistance. Responders: E3-2, Squad 3, ET-3, A3-7, WC E13-2, WC RS 13, and Red Cross.
1716 hours: E3-2 and ET-3 responded to 14542 Mercersburg Road to assist Co. 9 (MMP&W) with a dwelling fire; cancelled enroute.
ASSIST TO MAUGANSVILLE, FUEL SPILL & TWO AFA'S
1/3/12 - 0647 hours E3-1 to assist WC Co. 13 (Maugansville) with a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 81 near Showalter Road; cancelled enroute.
1102 hours: Squad 3 and Duty 3 responded to 720 Buchanan Trail East for a fluid spill. Locating a parked tractor-trailer with a ruptured fuel tank, personnel put containment in place to reduce environmental exposure and worked with Antrim EMA and Dave’s Truck Repair for clean-up.
1618 hours: E3-2 out for a residential fire alarm- 3407 Leitersburg Road; caused by construction in the building.
1644 hours: E3-2 and Co. 8 to 1226 Kauffman Road West for a commercial fire alarm; system malfunction.
GARAGE FIRE & AN AFA
1/1/12 - 1452 hours: Box 3-13 alerted for a garage fire, Eleah’s Crossing. Responders arriving on-scene determined the fire was confined to the wall of an attached garage and finished extinguishment while conducting extension checks and focused overhaul of the two-story residence.
1711 hours: E3-1 responded to 2240 Shinham Road for a residential fire alarm; cancelled enroute.
