February 2010: Pierce production reports have started on the newest member

of the RHC fleet - Squad 3. Work on the cab and rescue body continues, 

with a Summer 2010 in-service targeted.

ANOTHER HOUSE FIRE IN 9's AREA & A

PROPERTY DAMAGE ACCIDENT

 

2/25/10 - At 12:13 E3-1 and ET-3 responded to assist Co. 9 (Mercersburg) with a dwelling fire - 14188 Buchanan Trail West, Peters Township. Personnel worked extinguishment and overhaul duties on the first and second floor before clearing in about 75 minutes.

 

 

 

At 15:05 Squad 3 responded to assist Greencastle Police with fluid clean-up from a property damage accident, in front of 146 Leitersburg Street.

 


THREE RUNS FOR THE DAY

 

2/24/10 - At 07:51 RHC, A8-9, A2-8 and M203 were alerted to 1897 McDowell Road for a vehicle accident involving a school bus. Upon arrival, crews determined the driver of the auto was confined and began door removal. After accessing the occupant, personnel assisted with patient packaging and fluid/debris clean-up.

 

 

 

Co. 3 responded at 12:58 to Buchanan Trail West in the area of Rabbit Road for a tractor-trailer with overheated brakes. Communications advised they determined the location by using wireless tracking, although the driver thought he was on Route 30. While checking the area, other responders found the incident on Lincoln Way West- as the driver reported - and about ten miles from the dispatched address.

 

At 20:53 Squad 3 was alerted to assist Station 4 with an auto accident- Interstate 81 at mile marker 14 southbound; placed in service while responding.

 


HOUSE FIRE, MVA & AN AFA

 

2/23/10 - ET-3 responded at 02:42 to 485 Bear Valley Road to assist Co. 9 (Mercersburg) with a dwelling fire.

At 09:14 Squad 3 was alerted to assist Co. 2 (Waynesboro) with an auto accident, 10617 Anthony Highway. E5-2 determined no need for the Squad, and cancelled the unit enroute.

 

At 19:24 E3-1 and Duty 3 responded to 8050 Molly Pitcher Highway, Fayetteville Contractors for an automatic fire alarm; no cause found.

 


ET HEADS TO SOUTH MOUNTAIN

 

2/21/10 - At 23:16 ET-3 was dispatched to 12230 Loop Road, assisting Co. 16 (South Mountain) with a dwelling fire; cancelled enroute.

 


LAST MINUTE PREPARATIONS

 

2/21/10 - At 13:30 The HOCO Minstrel Show is almost here, with last minute preparations underway before it hits the road and then takes center stage at the G-A High School on March 4-6.

 

 

 


HOUSE FIRE ON OAK LANE

 

2/21/10 - At 04:59 Box 3-04 was alerted for a garage fire, 215 Oak Lane in Greencastle. Responders arrived to fire from a window on the front of the ranch-style home, extending to the porch and attic areas. Residents had evacuated, and crews determined the involved area was in the attached garage. Quickly knocking down fire in the garage, they then accessed the attic to continue suppression operations. Other personnel conducted ventilation and salvage duties, before all assisted with extension checks and a lengthy overhaul. Units cleared in under three hours.

Responders: E3-1, E3-2, Squad 3, A3-7, Duty 3, Utility 3, E8-1, WC TK27, WC RS13, E2-2, E9-2, Franklin County Air Unit, American Red Cross. WC Co. 13 filled Co. 3's station during the incident.

 

 

 


ESSENTIALS TRAINING - HOSE EVOLUTIONS

 

2/20/10 - Responders from RHC and other area departments continue their Essentials of Firefighting training modules on South Washington Street. This weekend's courses included hose evolutions and stream management, SCBA proficiency, and rescue/EMS stations.

 


ENGINE TRANSFER TO CO.9

THEN TO SCENE OF A HOUSE FIRE

 

2/19/10 - E3-2 transferred to Co. 9 at 11:51 while their crews assisted WC Co. 4 (Clear Spring) with a dwelling fire. After being in station for about an hour, they were alerted to the scene at 12719 Spickler Road to assist with salvage and overhaul operations- clearing in two hours.

 


MVA ON W. BALTIMORE STREET

 

2/18/10 - At 13:41 RHC was alerted for an auto accident at 29 W. Baltimore Street in Greencastle. Personnel stabilized the three vehicles involved- two parked- while assisting EMS with packaging one patient.

 

 

 


AFA ON PINE DRIVE

 

2/17/10 - At 14:10 E3-1 and Duty 3 responded to 120 Pine Drive for an automatic fire alarm; no FD services required.

 


ET TAKES IN TWO MUTUAL AID STRUCTURE FIRES

 

2/16/10 - ET-3 responded at 01:37 to 1011 Rocky Mountain Road in Quincy Township, assisting Co. 16 (South Mountain) with a commercial building fire. Crews worked suppression and overhaul before clearing at 0510 hours.

At 18:47 ET-3 responded to assist Co. 5 (Mont Alto) with a dwelling fire at 5034 Altenwald Road; placed in service while responding.

 


ET TO NEW FRANKLIN FOR A REPORTED HOUSE FIRE

 

2/15/10 - At 22:16 ET-3 responded to assist Co. 17 (New Franklin) with a dwelling fire; cancelled enroute.

 


PROPERTY DAMAGE IN MAUGANSVILLE

 

2/14/10 - Squad 3 responded at 23:04 to Maugansville Road and Garnett Avenue in Washington County for a property damage accident; cancelled by WC Co. 13 while responding.

 


TRANSFER & A MOBILE HOME FIRE

 

2/12/10 - At 01:27 E3-1 transferred to Saint Thomas (Co. 18) for nearly five hours.

 

At 18:53 ET-3 responded to assist Co. 17 (New Franklin) with a mobile home fire at 5860 Sheller Road. After some time in staging, unit was placed in service.

 


2010 BLIZZARD

 

2/11 & 12/10 - With the area receiving significant snowfall and then elevated wind conditions, RHC maintained crews to answer multiple calls for assistance. EMS assists, incidents related to road conditions and State proclamation implementation  were handled by Co. 3 members- in addition to some meal preparation and problem solving while staged at the Station. THANKS to all that helped- including those that moved snow and kept the ramps and other areas passable (especially Antrim Township and Delbert Myers).

 


INSIDE INVESTIGATION

 

2/11/10 - At 18:35 Co. 3 was alerted to 3601 Buchanan Trail West for an inside investigation; no hazards located.

 


TWO MVA'S ON THE "I"

 

2/9/10 - At 17:25 Co. 3 and Co. 8 responded to Interstate 81 at mile marker 5.5 northbound for an auto accident. Crews found one auto in the median requiring no FD assistance.

 

Co. 3 and WC Co. 13 responded at 21:25 to Interstate 81 at mile marker 1 northbound for an auto accident. Responders located a single vehicle in the median requiring no services.

 


1930 SEAGRAVE TO UNDERGO RESTORATION

 

2/8/10 - RHC members and Cunningham's Body Shop crews loaded the 1930 Seagrave on a rollback and headed north- to Mount Holly Springs. There, the 70 year-old apparatus will undergo restoration by Ivan Bretzman and the Bretzman's Garage staff- to improve mechanical reliability and a more original configuration. Look for updates and its return in time for Old Home Week.

 

 

 

 

 


MVA ON I-81

 

2/7/10 - At 23:32 Co. 3 and Co. 8 were alerted to Interstate 81 northbound at mile marker 5 for an auto accident. Enroute, responders checked a pick-up in the median at mile marker 3.5- its occupant requiring no services, then three tractor-trailers stopped in the passing lane a short distance further north. After confirming no immediate need for Fire/EMS, units continued north and coordinated with southbound Co. 8 apparatus that there were no incidents for the area of dispatch. Squad 3 returned to mile marker 3.5 and set up motorist warning devices before returning to service.

 


SAFETY TIP!!

 

A buried fire hydrant is.. NO GOOD! Please take a few minutes to clear the snow out from any hydrants around your house or business. This simple task ensures responders can easily locate and access these devices in an emergency. It only takes a few minutes, but it could be a lifesaver.
 

 

 


MUTUAL AID GARAGE FIRE & A 1ST DUE AFA

 

2/7/10 - At 06:38 E3-2 and ET-3 responded to assist CO. 18 with a garage fire extending to the dwelling - 3834 Jacks Mill Road. Engine crew staffed the personnel pool before working their assigned tasks; ET-3 staged for water supply direction; and both cleared the scene in about two hours.

 

 
 

At 12:34 E3-2 responded to 1080 Hyke Road, Jerr-Dan for a commercial fire alarm. After checking the building with Security, it was determined to be a false trip and units returned to service.

 

 


TWO AUTO ACCIDENTS FOR THE DAY

 

2/5/10 - Brush 3, Duty 3, A3-9 and Squad 3 responded at 17:42 for an auto accident on Buchanan Trail East at Long Lane.

 

At 18:35 Co. 3 and Washington County Co. 13 were alerted for an auto accident on Interstate 81 at mile marker 4; nothing found.

ODOR OF ELECTRICAL

 

2/3/10 - Box 3-04 was alerted at 19:38 for an odor of electrical equipment burning, 17 North Washington Street. With the odor evident upon entry to the building, personnel checked each section with thermal image cameras and removed installed features to access concealed spaces. After locating and removing some heat-exposed insulation, the odor dissipated and crews cleared in about 30 minutes.

 

 

 


AFA IN THE BOROUGH

 

2/2/10 - At 15:11 E3-2 responded to 205 E. Baltimore Street for an automatic fire alarm - cancelled enroute.

 


SQUAD ASSIST WITH CO.8

 

2/1/10 - At 23:24 Squad 3 responded to assist Co. 8 with a vehicle fire next to a building, 5373 Molly Pitcher Highway - cancelled enroute.
