BUSY DAY ON I-81 AT MILE MARKER 7

02/06/2024- 0953 hours: Company 3 and 8 alerted for a tractor trailer on fire- Interstate 81 northbound at mile marker 7. First arriving units confirmed smoke from a mechanical issue with no services required.

02/06/2024- 1224 hours: Crews were dispatched to Interstate 81 northbound at mile marker 7 to assist Pennsylvania State Police with overheated brakes on a semi trailer. Engine 3-1 cooled the assemblies, checked for extension and monitored temperatures before going available.

02/07/2024- 0333 hours: Apparatus from RHC and Marion responded to Interstate 81 at mile marker 7 for a vehicle accident- Communications reporting several tractor trailers involved including one overturned. Crews arrived to three semis- one on the northbound shoulder, one in the southbound travel lane and the third on its side blocking all southbound travel lanes- all operators out/accounted for and set-up lighting and began fluid mitigation. EMS transported three from the scene with County-wide Fire Police setting up and staffing traffic control points. While fire and rescue units cleared within four hours, Franklin County HAZMAT, PSP, towing and PennDOT remained to address hazards and clear the roadway. Both northbound lanes opened by 0948 hours, while southbound opened at 1121 hours. Tip of the helmet to ALL the agencies and personnel that assisted on this long duration incident.
