CELEBRATE BUT PLEASE BE SAFE

07/04/2023: The mid-Summer Independence Day holiday is here- ENJOY time with friends and family while celebrating the great country in which we live and its freedoms. Please celebrate responsibly- especially where fires and injuries may occur. While we like to meet you, we don't want to do so on a roadway, in a house or field responding to an emergency.

The BURN BAN REMAINS in effect for the Borough of Greencastle and includes ANY outside fire and fireworks.

Here is some general information in case you were curious:

Where can fireworks be purchased in Pennsylvania? Fireworks retailers have temporary and permanent locations. Confirm the items being purchased are legal in your state.

Who can buy fireworks? Anyone over the age of 18 can buy fireworks in Pennsylvania.

Where can fireworks be set off? In Pennsylvania, fireworks CANNOT be discharged... -On public or private property without express permission of the property owner.

-From or within a motor vehicle or building. -Toward a motor vehicle or building. -Within 150 feet of an occupied structure, whether or not a person is actually present.

-While the person discharging them is under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance, or another drug.

Law Enforcement also recommends checking with municipalities, as there may be local ordinances for fireworks that apply or other limitations (burn bans for example).

If using fireworks elsewhere, be familiar with their operation, know the law and use common sense.
