07/01/2025: July 4th is just around the corner and we hope the celebration of 249 years of independence is a great one for our residents. After a day of games and grilling, you MAY be tempted to finish off the evening with a do-it-yourself fireworks display. It depends on where your fun takes place- Borough of Greencastle or Antrim Township- as to what you can and cannot do. We'll list the added state information at the bottom of the post, but here is the short version:

-Use of display fireworks within the Borough of Greencastle is prohibited.

In Antrim Township:

-Cannot ignite or discharge fireworks on public property or private property without express permission of the property owner.

-Cannot direct them at another person.

-Cannot be discharged from or directed at a building or vehicle.

-Cannot be discharged within 150 feet of a building or vehicle- regardless if the building/vehicle is owned by the user of the consumer fireworks.

Follow the rules and use common sense. Consideration should be given to those sensitive to loud noises and pets. An early conversation between neighbors may eliminate a confrontation later.

In addition to those shared under the Antrim Township header above, State-wide laws and regulations for using fireworks also include:

-Class C or consumer grade fireworks- firecrackers, bottle rockets and simitlar fireworks containing a maximum of 50 milligrams of explosive material are legal.

-"Display fireworks" are only to be used by professionals with a permit from the municipality where the display takes place.

-Display fireworks include salutes that contain more than two grains or 130 milligrams of explosive materials and professional grade aerial shells containing more than 60 grams of pyrotechnic compositions.
